Best visit time -- October Fall Foliage. Visit on midweek and arrive early to avoid crowds..

Itineraries

At least one to two days:
Skyline Drive from Front Royal to Big Meadows -- 51 Miles, a full day.
Rapidan Camp to Rockfish Gap -- 54 Miles, a full day.

Accommodations

Camping:

There are 4 campgrounds and 1 group campground are inside the Shenandoah National Park.

Mathews Arm, Lewis Mountain and Loft Mountain Campground are open from mid May to October, First come first serve. National Park service reservation center.

Dundo Group Campground is a primitive campground open to groups with a minimum of 8 campers and maximum of 20. Opens from April to November. Reservations are required. Call 1-800-365-CAMP.

Skyland Lodge, Big Meadows Lodge and Lewis Mountain Cabins are operated by ARAMARK Sports and Entertainment, Inc. Open from April, May to November.

Potomac Appalachian Trail Club Cabins:
Six locked, primitive cabins inside the park equipped with mattresses, blankets, and cookware are maintained by Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. More information or to make reservations call PATC at (703) 242-0693 or (703) 242-0315.
