German

German Value Added Tax Refunds and Exemption

Value added tax (VAT) is automatically included in the price of goods purchased in Germany. The rate is 16 or 7 percent. If you purchase the goods while in Germany and carry them out of the country in your personal baggage, you will have to pay the VAT at the time of the purchase and file for a refund.

- Inform the retailer that you intend to export the merchandise to a non-EU country. Present your passport showing your address outside the EU;
- The retailer will then fill out an export certificate form;
- The customs official must stamp the export certificate;
- On your return to the U.S., you must mail the export certificate and the bill of sale back to the retailer in order to receive a refund.


Australia

Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS)

The TRS enables you to claim a refund, subject to certain conditions, of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax (WET) that you pay on goods you buy in Australia.

- Spend $300 (GST inclusive) or more in the one store and get a single tax invoice ;
- Buy goods no more than 30 days before departure ;
- Wear or carry the goods on board the aircraft or ship and present them along with your original tax invoice, passport and international boarding pass to a Customs Officer at a TRS facility ;
- Claims at airports are only available up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure of your flight.

The TRS enables you to claim a refund, subject to certain conditions, of the goods and services tax (GST) and wine equalisation tax (WET) that you pay on goods you buy in European countries. The countries with TRS include Austria, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK.

Switzerland

Switzerland Tourist Refund Scheme

- Your total purchase in a shop must amount to CHF 400 including VAT. Goods must be exported within 30 days.;
- When leaving Switzerland make sure that your Tax-free Shopping Cheques are stamped by Swiss customs authorities ;
- Collect your refund. Immediate cash at a nearby Cash Refund Office, direct credit to a chosen credit card, or a bank check to your home address .


Singapore

Singapore Tourist Refund Scheme

Although GST is collected on all purchases of goods and services in Singapore, you may as a visitor to Singapore claim for refund of the GST paid on your purchases if:

- You are not a Singaporean or permanent resident of Singapore ;
- You have not spent more than 365 days in Singapore in the past 2 years ;
- You have spent S$100 or more on goods at shops displaying the Tax Free Shopping logo ;
- You spent S$300 or more on goods at shops displaying the Tax Refund logo.
- You take the goods out of Singapore through Changi or Seletar Airport within 2 months of purchase
