TechCrunch上的breaking news, Kayak居然把它的竞争对手Sidestep给买下来了，$200million的交易，至此，Kayak成了第五大的旅游网站。之前，Kayak每年$50 million revenue, Sidestep是$35 million.

想当年，Sidestep可是超级搜索引擎的老大，Kayak后来居上，到如今这个结局，互联网的时代真是千变万化啊。

旅游搜索方面，之后的Mobissimo and Farecast 听说也有动作。 另外，Farecast 的迅速发展也很令人惊讶。

Kalaloch lodge就在海边，一间间独门独户的小木屋。只不过想着黑漆漆的夜里，住在阴冷的Pacific Ocean旁边，看着海面渐渐飘起的浓雾，嗯，不是我喜欢的调调，还是暖暖的加勒比海夜晚更有些浪漫的味道。

Cruise订好之后，另外需要做的功课就是港口观光的活动（Shore Excursion）安排了。实际上，停靠的港口是否有趣，是我决定Crusie行程的一个重要因素。船上的设施再好，时间久了自然也闷。Cruise利用夜间时间航行，白天靠岸停泊观光，提高了度假期间的时间利用率，的确是一个很好的卖点。

Shore Excursion的安排主要分为两种：

一，登船后预订Cruise公司安排的Shore Excursion。

官方Shore Excursion，价格自然要贵一些，适合兜里有米而懒得提前花时间提前准备的朋友。

另外好处听说如果Cruise不是直接靠岸，而是需要小船摆渡到岸的话，订船上观光活动的会先出发（需要去过的朋友验证）。

热门的shore excursion也要一登船就预订，否则很快就订满了。

二，当地的旅行社

前文提过，因为cruise所到地的经济好多都依靠cruise旅游业，你可以想象到当地有许多专门依靠这类cruise的旅行社和私人导游，价格上比官方Shore Excursion有优势，甚至服务也更好，都会在cruise停靠处安排车接车送，一团的人数也相对少一些。只是这类活动需要更早一些提前预订。

Cruise Critic是网上讨论Cruise旅游的最大论坛，关于目的地港口的活动安排讨论十分活跃，大致看看，就知道你想要参加的活动了。比如我们这一回，除了Cozumel去年去过，打算自己租车兜兜玩玩之外， Grand Cayman选择了Stingray City sandbar的snorkling tour, Jamaica还在考虑，可能会选Dunn’s Falls和Ocho Rios Highlight Tour;都算是cruise港口观光的画龙点睛了。

另外，如果你对当地比较熟悉，可以完全自己租车或搭乘其它公共交通自助旅游。或者实在想省钱的话，可以去当地的海滩躺上半天，也是一种休闲。加勒比海的蓝，永远看不厌。等待我们游玩之后的故事吧。

Cruise出游是需要旅行证件的。有人说，这个唠叨，哪个旅行不需要带证件啊。呵呵，问的人多嘛。基本而言，Cruise出游相当于境外旅游，需要携带护照和合法的回美文件。

正是因为涉及到出入境的官方法律解释，所有代理和游轮公司是不替你咨询你出入境合法与否问题的，相反，他们都是建议你去美国和目的地所在国相关政府部门询问，而且如果最终因为身份问题无法成行，游轮公司不会退回你的预订费用。

我这儿也免责一下，我所写的下文是根据网友的反馈和我的个人理解，仅供参考，本人不承担任何责任。

老话，需要携带护照（有效期长于六个月）和合法的回美文件。回美文件是关键，否则你这豪华游轮即使近在眼前，也上不了，还可能把度假的心情换来一肚子气。

美国公民及绿卡身份，美国出入境来去自由，最容易。

学生F/J签证也容易，去加拿大、墨西哥及加勒比海国家30天之内，不需要额外回美签证，只需要有效的I-20/IAP-66表（学校签字）和I94卡。务必打印相关Automatic Revalidations Section 41.112(d) of 22 CFR 的正式文本备用，做好上船时和个别糊涂海关官员、船员有理有据有条不紊讨论你visa revalidation情况的心理准备，时间长度取决官员糊涂程度和游轮公司和移民局的电话线路畅通情况。

加勒比海国家指以下地区，注意对照你的cruise行程，确认一下，如果不在这个名单中还是少去为妙。
The term adjacent islands means Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Barbuda, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Marie-Galante, Martinique, Miquelon, Montserrat, Saba, Saint Barth[eacute]lemy, Saint Christopher, Saint Eustatius, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Maarten, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre, Saint Vincent and Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, and other British, French and Netherlands territory or possessions bordering on the Caribbean Sea.

父母的B签证因为现在都是一年多次往返，所以也没有问题, 带好I94就可以了。

H签证比较头痛，如果要去加勒比海，你需要自己事先搞定回美签证，F签证的好处你不适用。另外在申请绿卡过程中，如果还没有AP的，你也还是再等等，别在关键时候给自己添乱了。

Cruise登船的时候会查证件，上船后护照会被换成船卡，到其他目的地港口都是使用船卡上下船的。看来船卡要好好保存，不知道在船下如果丢了或者被盗会怎么办？

Cruise到美国下船的时候宛如入境，会重新验证入美证件，I94可能会被换掉。

一个常见的问题是，我需不需要目的地国家（port of call）的签证？

这个问题因为目的地众多，太复杂了。最安全的方法自然是申请签证，你打电话问对方大使馆，自然也说要签证（想想就知道）。不过一次行程停靠两三个港口，银子不说，签证申请过程也太麻烦了。根据网上信息和去过的朋友反馈，加勒比海一带的cruise, 不签证是没有问题的，因为使用船卡上下船，加上小地方主要依靠旅游业，所以上下船基本没有当地政府机构查验证件。

这里提到的只是加勒比海一带的岛国，其他目的地情况就不一样了。比如去Alaska的cruise, 途径Canada, 即使不必下船，也是必须要有Canada visa的，否则无法登船，这一点和在加拿大转机过境一样严格（或者BT?）详细解释可以看看这篇帖子：http://www.mitbbs.com/article/Travel/19642832_3.html

没想到临出门才打印的官方条款竟然派上了大用场.

前一个是关于F1过期的签证可以revalidate的,后一个有”adjacent islands”的定义.

上船的时候, 就遭到盘查. 我们仔细的给船上负责外国人证件的官员解释半天, 他打了一大通电话, 还借走我们的官方资料复印了一份, 仔仔细细看了I-20, 才放我们过去. Cruise的船员态度倒是真不错, 一个劲的道歉说占用我们太多的时间, 他想确定我们能回美国.

在美属维京群岛入关的时候, 移民局官员那里又碰了钉子. 拿回护照过关的时候发现I-94已经被撕掉换了一张. 给官员看证件, 一开始, 他并没有看出来, 还笑嘻嘻的问我: 你多大了? 怎么这么小就读博士了? 后来都盖了个戳, 才发现我的签证已经过期了. 我又是一通解释, 加上官方文件说明. 他不明所以, 叫来一位年纪大些的官员读文件. 那位大妈读了半天, 终于说, 好像他们是可以进境. 于是, 我们就被放了进来.看来他们遇到F1的情况实在少, 以后出行官方文件一定要不离手. 顺便说一下, Yue mm刚刚回国归来，签证还有一次有效entry, 也被郁闷的划掉了.

护照交给船上保管, 天天手里拿着船卡和驾照下船玩, 和美国人也没啥区别. 所以我们一个小岛签证也没办,没有任何麻烦.

其实很久以来就向往那奢侈靡烂的cruise之行, 可是每次想到要出国，要签证，麻烦的要命，就打消了这个注意
真正下决心是看到了lsh的美文在那水晶般的加勒比海上,
发现F1坐cruise去邻国邻岛根本不需要签证. 虽然我已经工作了，但是还是用的OPT,所以还是学生身份.看了huaren, mitbbs上很多帖子，大部分都说不用签证，可心里还是忐忑不安，因为已经递上了４８５，所以万一有问题，可能就永远回不来了，同去的另外一个朋友Z情况更差，１４号毕业，新的OPTçš„I20要到１月份才下来. 上船之前，下船之前，我都是相当的紧张，生怕有问题，不过后来证明都没有任何问题. F1只要带上护照，I20,I94就可以了，而我们用OPT的只需要加一份offer letter就可以了，而且也确实只是走走形式，我的offer letter 是outdated, Zçš„offer letter是找老板”伪造”çš„.

出发的前几天查了mitbbs和huaren,朋友找到的文件如下:

但是,其实这个文件很老了,好像是02年的文件. 临出发前一天晚上Z因为OPT有gap,所以又去Homeland security网页上查了一下最新的规定,发现OPT是需要带offer letter,所以我才翻箱倒柜的找出来旧的一份offer letter. 而Z第二天还要参加毕业典礼,之后又去找老板办offer letter,比我们晚了接近一个小时,终于在最后几分钟之内登上了船.

这次Cruise行程的预订，因为我很清楚我想要的时间、出发港口以及Cruise的具体名字，我原先考虑直接在网上搞定。不过之前有朋友推荐了一家Houston的华人旅行社，抱着多了解一些代理运作的想法，我打过去试试。旅行社的态度很好，只可惜她们在价格方面和官方网站一样，并没有额外优惠，主要是可以免费从deck 6生舱到deck 8, 这一点对我的吸引力有限。

最后决定还是试试Cruise Compete.

Cruise Compete网站的中心思想和我们美中机票的免费问票平台类似，就是把你的Cruise行程具体标准化，然后发给众多参与的旅行社代理，然后代理会根据自己的情况给予回复，你可以从众多代理回复中选择几家具体问问，最后选定最后出票代理。

整体看来，网站设计的非常简明，市场定位很好。

打开网站之后，最基本的是点击Your Account，注册登录。

然后会看到一则有趣的tips, About Cabin Credits–Important! 具体摘录如下：

About Cabin Credits
Because of certain cruise line rules (especially on RCL and Celebrity), agents may offer you onboard credits instead of a lower price. What exactly does this mean?

A “cabin credit” is money placed in your shipboard account to be used for tips, drinks, excursions, etc.–anything you can charge while on board.

The terms “Spa credits” “Shore Excursion Credits” and “Casino Credits” are misleading! While they sound like they can only be used for particular services or products, they are actually identical to cabin credits and can be be used to pay for anything you charge while on board.

Sometimes you’ll need to contact the agency to find out the amount of the credits (cruise line rules again). Be sure to do this–it can pay off in big savings for you!

这其实是提示你在众多代理回复中，你最需要关注的一点。

点击Create New Quote Request，按照指示填写你的行程情况和具体信息，很显然，最基本的一项是需要你选择具体Cruise的船名。从另一点说，你需要实现做好你的功课。如果你连基本功课都想偷懒的话，你更适合传统的cruise consultant, 比如AAA就有类似的服务。

我在我的查询服务中注明我需要很快做决定，所以希望代理尽快回复，结果第一封的回复离我的查询时间只间隔了十分钟，一个小时之内收到八个答复, 最终在我预订之前收到十二个答复。

值得注意的是，代理给出的价格都是”lead in”价格，就是他们能查到的最便宜的价格，比如

Offered above is the total price for 2 cabins
1 Inside CAT-Z for 2 pax priced at $1485.88
1 Inside CAT-L for 3 pax priced at $2098.82

其中Cat-Z的价格是自己不能选择船舱的，而在出发前一个星期，游轮公司会根据船舱预订情况随机替你分配一个船舱。

我知道这些价格应该对Royal Carribean 代理而言应该是相同的，而且和官方网站的价格一致。因为事先查过，我对价格是清楚的，所以对一些”lead in”价格故意特别低廉的代理，我一般认为人品问题，多半不浪费时间。当然这只适合Royal Carribean 这家公司。

我的兴趣主要集中在代理提供的on board credit上。中午时分，我已经打了三个电话，基本上了解了情况，最好的一家代理提供的offer是：

As a booking incentive, these fares include two RCCL on board savings booklet, a bottle of wine and I can offer on board amenities valued at $100.00 per cabin.

其中free coupon book是虚的，大家都能够提供，而$100.00 per cabin是实的，红酒是小恩小惠。但是正是最后这瓶红酒，他赢得了我的生意。

最后打电话过去预订的时候，需要准备所有同行人的名字和生日，和信用卡信息。代理还可以帮助安排一些特别的日子比如生日啊、结婚纪念日啊船上的免费庆祝，可能是多个蛋糕吧。

预订之后的半个小时，电子邮件确认来了，真正的游轮文件还要从那遥远的佛州代理寄来。而这时候我已经在Royal Carribean的官方网站注册确认，准备提前check in了。

互联网时代对传统旅行社的冲击是明显的，Cruise代理也是如此。

有台电脑，做足功课，你可以轻松在任何游轮公司的官方网页上预订你的Cruise行程。

那为什么还要和旅行社代理打交道呢？

1. 你渴望和人交流，人与人的对话让你觉得比和电脑打交道更有意义。

2. 在Cruise旅游这方面，你是只“菜鸟”，你有很多问题想请教。

3. 你不满意游轮公司的官方价格，期待更多的优惠。

显而易见，旅行社代理是靠游轮公司的commision生存的，互联网的应用让信息不对称的程度降低到最小，同时许多游轮公司（典型的比如Royal Carri bean/Celebrity）公开不允许旅行社代理恶性竞争降价，所以通过代理预订的”好处”也越来越小，除了上面提及的原因，谈到通过代理预订的具体优惠，主要有：

4. On board credit。虽然游轮公司不允许公开降价，但代理往往会把Commision 的一部分拿出来，作为你的on board credit, 变相优惠。

5. 免费升级，或者拿到一些更令人满意的舱位。花相对便宜的官方价格，拿到更实惠的船舱。

6. hold reservation. 即使先不付钱，也可以先把满意的舱位保留住。

7. 额外的小恩小惠。比如拿到一瓶免费红酒（船上$25刀价值），令人温情的巧克力篮等等。

8. Group reservation. 另外据说如果你们一群人出游，超过八个或十个以上船舱时，从代理那儿预订可以拿到更多折扣。(可惜这一次，我们的朋友都没时间捧场，其实一群人cruise的乐趣更多。)

旅行社代理的工作利润越来越小，也越来越不容易，所以他们更乐意为尊重他们的顾客服务，他们的时间也是他们的金钱，从这点意义上讲，多做一些功课，避免过于“菜鸟”的问题，是对他们服务的尊重，也更能赢得他们的满意服务。

当你真正选定一艘豪华游轮（cruise）之后，你需要做的另外一项功课就是对这艘船的船舱(statement)有所了解，这有助于你和旅行社代理讨论时，能迅速清楚地做决定。

每艘船都有自己的船舱（statement）和甲板(deck)布局，这类信息在网上很容易找到，可以在游轮公司的官方网站，或者其它第三者网站上找到，比如：Travelocity Cruise Finder，或者从当地旅行社直接索取cruise宣传画册。

通常的船舱分类有四种：
Inside Staterooms （最基本的内舱），Outside Staterooms （海景舱），Balcony Staterooms （阳台舱）和 Suites （套房）。另外每类船舱除了double cabin （双人舱）外，还有triple（三人舱）和quad（四人舱）。当然，游轮公司会把船舱分的更细致化，以达到最大的商业利润，比如我们乘坐的Royal Caribbean Voyager Of The Seas, 全部船舱种类共有十余种。

游轮公司内部有自己的价格分类代码，比如Cat: L，这往往代表同样价格的一类船舱，有时候和旅行社代理打交道，他会提及这里Cat代码，你可以具体问问清楚，但是如果你想提高交流效率，同时避免“菜鸟”形象的话，不妨事先做做功课，参考网站是：

通常Cruise Reviewer(豪华游轮评论员）都会坦率地和你说，由于丰富多彩的游轮活动和广阔的公共空间，你在私人船舱里的时间有限，主要是睡觉、换衣服和洗漱，所以Inside Staterooms （基本内舱）是足够的，当然又回到那句老话，这个世界上总是给你无限腐败的空间。

我们谈谈基本内舱的选择吧，主要考虑因素两点：环境噪音和感觉船晃动的程度，而这些因素如何权衡，因人而异。

感觉船晃动的程度，取决你对晕船的敏感程度。现代豪华游轮因为都有自动平衡系统，外加船体超大，最大程度上减低了船的晃动。从船舱的角度谈，一般甲板高层比低层感觉明显些，一般船头比船尾感觉明显些。

环境噪音，超底层船舱（比如deck 2）会感觉到引擎噪声。在公共空间直接上面或下面的船舱可能会感到人为噪音，比如舞厅上面等。所以如果你定的船舱上面或下面是公开空间的话，要注意看看具体是什么。

当然游轮的整体文化也决定了一些因素，如果这条船是年轻人的天下，那你自然不能期盼早早睡觉，夜生活也许是最精彩的一面。如果整条船是退休老先生老太太的天下，你可能担心的会是旁边房间早早响起的鼾声了。

总而言之，多了解一些船舱布局，可以在预定的时候很快做出选择。当然，你的任何选择都是tradeoff, 价钱、可供选择的房间等，都取决于你真正订票的那一刻。

Cruise旅游在老美这儿深得人心，因为轻松悠闲，在船上的吃喝玩乐都包了，就象一个超大的海上浮动度假村（resort），是大多数老美热衷的旅游方式。自从2001年911恐怖事件和之后的流感新闻炒作淡了一阵，最近几年又重新变得热门起来，换句话讲，想拿到超便宜的deal也变得越来越不容易。

想拿到好的Cruise价格，除去其他因素，预订时间上而言，大致就是两类：一是早下决心，提前两三个月购买，除了价格优惠外，也可以挑到比较满意的船舱，缺点是你要保证到时候能够成行(Cruise Protection Plan 或许是值得考虑的)；另一类的就是last minute，在cruise出发前一两个星期决定，当然船舱多半是剩下来的，另外如果你需要飞过去的话，机票价格是个大问题。

前面说过，Miami和Fort Lauderdale出发的Cruise更容易拿到好deal，出发时间是淡季容易拿到好deal.

查看Cruise deal的网站主要有以下几个：

总的而言，如果你能够拿到$100/pp/pn (每人每晚）的最后价格，就是比较满意的deal了，如果能捡到$70/pp/pn以下的最后价格，那就不要犹豫了。当然这里指的是相对便宜的Interior Stateroom, 海景房（Ocean View Stateroom）甚至带凉台的（stateroom with private balcony）自然要贵许多，要知道，腐败是无极限的。

Cruise的最后价格是指包括各种税费(government tax, port charges and taxes)之后的出票价格。你通常看到的网站宣传价格往往是基本价格（base price), 。在Cruise上的其它可能的费用包括：小费（gratuity）, 苏打酒水饮料（soda & soft and alcoholic drink）, 到港观光（Shore Excursion），及靓照（photo）、赌博（gambling）、美容（spa）、额外付费高级餐馆等等等了。

这次预订Cruise, 并没有花费很长时间，实际上，从决定到最后敲定，不过一个星期的时间。下面大概谈谈预订过程中的一些体会，算是科普一下，大家有其它预订游轮的经验，也请多多发表高见，最后会凑成一篇文章。

1. 基本功课

主要是Cruise公司，出发港口，行程长短，行程线路 以及出发时间。

对我而言，这些功课因为之前就多多少少研究过，所以很简单。为了节省旅行成本和旅行时间，我们的出发港口首选是Houston旁的Galveston港. 其它美国南面出发的港口有：Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Miami, Florida; New Orleans等。如果你从其他城市出发，无论如何都要飞过去的话，Miami和Fort Lauderdale出发的Cruise更容易拿到好deal, 当然如果更奢侈的话，可以象小榛子她们直接飞到 San Juan, Puerto Rico，把Eastern Caribbean 玩个透。

从Galveston出发的豪华游轮主要有两家，Carnival和Royal Carri bean。相比而言，我个人偏好Royal Carribean, 看评论，船上设施和食物都略胜一筹。Carnival年轻人多一些，因此也热闹一些，价格相比便宜少少。两家公司的行程类似，都是Western Caribbeans 为主。

行程长短，短的三五天，中等的是七天的，还有更长时间的。我们这次选择的是七天航线的，停靠三个港口，Montego Bay, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico, 比较符合我们的标准。短程五天的只停靠两个港口，更因为时间关系，目的地以近处的墨西哥为主。我们更偏爱Caribbean多一些。

出发时间如果是节假日旺季，比如圣诞节或新年，价钱贵不说，你还需要提前几个月预订。一月中旬到二月份，算是相对淡季，价钱上有些优势。六月到十一月Carribean一带不定期有飓风，遇到的风险比较大，完全要靠人品了。

我们这次决定的时间匆忙，提前一个多月问价，只有一月十三日之后出发的了，因为行程不一样，选了二十日出发的Voyager Of The Seas.

考虑许久，为了探亲的岳父母，最终还是订了Weatern Caribbean cruise, Royal Caribbean Voyager Of The Seas。出发时间是2008年1月20日，Port of call: Montego Bay, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico.

Stingray City - Located at the North Sound sandbar, is accessible only by boat. Stingrays gather here to be fed. This shallow, sandy area is one of two spots on Grand Cayman that are ideal for snorkeling among the stingrays. In StingrayCity the stingrays are so tame they suck the squid right out of your hand. Duration 3-4 hours. Price: $38-$46.50

Grand Cayman is one of those rare safe islands, so you can feel fine about planning your own excursions and not having to use the ships excursions (if you choose to do so).

1. I think everyone should visit stingray sandbar once. It’s an amazing experience. We never tire of this and do this each time we’re there. We use Captain Marvin’s. www.captainmarvins.com

2. There’s always the island tour and Captain Marvin’s also offers one of these (we did this our first time there so we could get an idea of what the island was like). You’ll drive down the 7MB area…stop at the Gov’s mansion (stay on bus)…stop at the old house, the one with sand as a yard (stay on the bus)…stop at Hell (you’ll get off the bus and can roam around. There’s rock formation that look like what Hell might look like, hence the name of the town. There’s also a gift shop there). Then you’ll probably stop at the new turtle farm (they have a huge gift shop and a smallish snack bar). You’ll also make a stop at the Tortuga rum cake place. They have samples of rum and rum cakes, and an assortment of other souvenirs.

3. A day at the beach. Sea Grape and Royal Palms are places along the 7MB stretch. They offer food, restrooms, chair rentals, water toy rentals. You can grab a cab from the port, or have the driver drop you at one of these places (after your snorkel at stingray sandbar-if you do the snorkel). There are plenty of cabs at both of these places for your return trip. Sea Grape is a couple of miles past Royal Palms, so if you’re pinched for time, I’d go to Royal Palms.

4. Rum Point is a wonderful beach area on Grand Cayman. It’s much more tropical than the 7MB area, but it’s also a 45-minute drive (each way) to RP. Nativeway offers a stingray snorkel and Rum Point trip. Rum Point has a restaurant, water toy rentals (Red Sail is also here), a nice sized gift shop, restrooms with a nice shower area, and lounge chairs.

5. Many of the hotels offer day packages. You might check with the Hyatt, the Marriott Beach Resort, Comfort Suites, or the Westin Casuarina. 7MB is public, and you can walk the length of it and stop anywhere you want. I think it’s the high tide mark that draws the line. So you could just plop your towel anywhere you want and enjoy the ocean.

6. You could rent a car and explore the island. Grand Cayman is one of those rare islands that you can drive anywhere on the island and be completely safe (use the same precautions you’d use at home). We always use Andy’s.

7. The botanical garden is lovely, but it’s over on the other side of the island (on the way to Rum Point). You’d need to have your own car, or find a tour that would take you there.

8. Pedro’s Castle-the blowholes-The Lighthouse Restaurant. These are all on the way to Rum Point (should you be heading that way).

9. The Butterfly Farm is near the port area. We’ve not done this yet, but I believe we’re going to make time the next time we’re there.

Breezes is one of our favorites. Here’s their website. www.breezesbythebay.com/ In the picture, it’s the building on the left side (second and third floor. They have a small balcony and it’s really fun to people watch and it’s a great view of the ocean. They also have a bar menu. You have to ask for this, but they have some different selections than on the regular menu and some are the same, they just don’t have all the sides.

You’ll also be close to the Hard Rock, Margaritaville, Rackham’s (a short walk), and the Paradise Grill.

去年圣诞节去Cancun的时候，定下的调调是自驾游，所以研究了一下墨西哥租车保险的情况。当时最便宜的租车deal是Thrift的，它的term上清清楚楚写明不接受信用卡或者第三方购买的CDW保险。

然而今天看到一博客说Cancun的Hertz并没有这种说法，而且事实上如果你用Visa卡的话，居住地境外的租车保险是primary的，而不是象北美租车的话信用卡只是secondary insurance.

下面转载自 Visa卡CDW (collision damage waiver ) 条例：

How does this benefit apply?

Within your country of residence, Visa Auto Rental CDW supplements, and applies excess of, any valid and collectible insurance or reimbursement from any source. It does not duplicate insurance provided by or purchased through the auto rental company; it will not pay for losses reimbursed by your own insurer, employer, employer’s insurance, or any other valid and collectible insurance; however, it will pay for the outstanding deductible portion or other charges, including valid administration and loss-of-use charges not covered by your applicable automobile insurance policy. Outside your country of residence or if you do not have automobile insurance, this benefit is primary in those countries where it is available, and in that case, you do not have to claim payment from any other source of insurance before receiving the benefits.

有些tricky, 但是或许能省一些在墨西哥租车的保费(当然，这里谈到的都是CDW, 而不是Liability Insurance -LI)。当然，希望永远用不到保险，因为取决于你访问墨西哥的地方，当地警察的态度恐怕大相径庭。我当时读了好多网上的故事，钱包里20美刀的“罚款”是准备充分的。当然，事实证明，Cancun那一带的旅游区还不错。
